Urgent help after a storm, when a tree or large limb has fallen or is about to.
What it is
Emergency crews make the site safe first: getting a tree off a roof, car or driveway, and stopping further damage. The full cleanup, stump grinding and repairs usually come later, during regular hours.
If a tree or branch is touching a power line, stay at least 10 metres away and call your hydro utility or 911. Tree companies can't touch it until the power is off.
Signs you might need it
- A tree or large limb has fallen on your house, car or fence
- A tree is uprooted or split and leaning on a building
- A broken limb is hanging over a walkway or driveway
- A fallen tree is blocking your only way in or out
Good to know
If nothing is in immediate danger, make the area safe and book the rest during regular hours to avoid emergency premiums.
Typical cost in Ontario
Before HST. Expect about 25–50% more than normal pricing for nights, weekends and holidays. A tree on a house that needs a crane can cost two to three times a normal removal.
What pushes the price up or down
- Time of call (nights, weekends, holidays)
- Whether the tree is on a building, car or power line
- Tree size, and whether it's under tension
- Access for trucks and cranes
- Storm demand: after a big storm, crews are booked out
Ways to spend less
- Call your home insurer early: if a covered storm drops a tree on your house or another insured building, removal is often covered (a tree that falls without damaging anything usually isn't)
- If nothing is in danger, book the full job for regular hours
- Take photos before any work starts, for your insurance claim
